MT TARAWERA SCENIC FLIGHT
The volcano responsible for New Zealand’s largest historic eruption, Mount Tarawera, is located 24 kilometres southeast of Rotorua in the Western Bay of Plenty. A “sleeping giant”, it is currently dormant but is known to have erupted five times in the last 18,000 years. A volcanic flight allows you to see the fissure running across its crater, caused by its last eruption in 1886.
